The Oak Store is more than an online marketplace — it is a platform built around people, purpose and opportunity. We bring local entrepreneurs and emerging brands together with customers while creating pathways for young people to develop skills, gain experience and participate in the digital economy. From vendor development and marketing support to business growth opportunities, The Oak Store is designed to help small businesses grow, customers discover local talent, and communities thrive.
More than a marketplace — we’re part of something bigger.
Meet the organisations, initiatives and community campaigns we proudly support. From grassroots projects to community-driven campaigns, our impact partners help us create opportunities, encourage participation and make a difference.
From Potential to Possibility. From Possibility to Impact.
1
See It
We uncover local talent, ideas and businesses with potential.
2
Build It
We provide the support, skills and exposure to help entrepreneurs develop.
3
Sell It
We create a trusted marketplace where customers can discover and support local businesses.
4
Grow It
More visibility creates more opportunity. More opportunity can create income. And growing businesses can contribute to stronger families and communities.
THE CHALLENGE IS CLEAR. THE OPPORTUNITY IS BIGGER.
South Africa doesn’t lack talent, ambition or entrepreneurs.
33.6%
Unemployment
8.5 million people are unemployed in South Africa.
South Africa's official unemployment rate reached 33.6% in Q2 2026, with 8.5 million people unemployed.
The Gap: Traditional employment cannot be the only pathway to economic participation.
The Oak Store response: Create additional pathways through entrepreneurship, digital commerce, skills development and income-generating opportunities.
42.3 M
Working-Age Population
South Africa has 42.3 million people aged 15–64, representing a vast pool of human potential.
The Gap: Potential does not automatically become economic participation. People need access to opportunity, networks, markets and the tools to participate.
The Oak Store Response: Connect emerging entrepreneurs and community members to a platform where their skills, products and ideas can become visible and commercially viable.
3.7 M
Discouraged Job-seekers
In Q2 2026, 3.7 million people were classified as discouraged job-seekers — people who wanted work but were not actively seeking employment.
The Gap: When conventional employment pathways remain inaccessible, people need alternative ways to participate in the economy
The Oak Store Response: Create opportunities for people to build, market and sell — while connecting them to training, mentorship, content, networks and commercial opportunities.
Participation
Entrepreneurship
South Africa's informal sector grew by 34,000 employed people between Q1 and Q2 2026, even as total employment declined by 16,000.
The Gap: Many emerging businesses are already creating economic activity — but growth can be constrained by limited visibility, market access, digital capability and commercial networks.
The Oak Store Response: Build a trusted digital marketplace that helps local businesses become visible, connected, supported and easier to discover.

The Engine Behind the Opportunity
Behind The Oak Store is The Magi Youth Development Campus — a community-rooted development organisation focused on equipping people with practical skills and pathways to opportunity.
Through community upskilling initiatives, strategic partnerships and learnership opportunities for unemployed youth, Magi helps turn potential into practical capability.
Our Community Venture Development Programme (CVDP) takes this further — connecting learning to real-world experience in e-commerce, marketing, customer support, logistics and business.
Because skills create possibility. Opportunity creates momentum.

What’s Next? We’re Just Getting Started.
The Oak Store is growing beyond the marketplace.
From taking the Community Venture Development Programme into the Worcester region, to launching our Thrift Store, and continuing our monthly Walkies to Kalkies community participation — we’re building a model that connects commerce, skills development and community impact.
Next stop: More people. More opportunity. More impact.
I applied on a Tuesday and had my first order ten days later. The onboarding team fixed my pricing and reshot my photos before anything went live, which is not something I could have done on my own.
